Two members of the Tolman boys’ volleyball team were recently honored for their outstanding seasons by being named All-Division.
Setter Jason Veiga was awarded Second Team All-Division for the second consecutive year. His 357 assists and 6.38 assists per game average both rank as the sixth highest in a season in the history of the program. The junior also had 105 digs, raising his career total to 263, which is the sixth highest all-time and the most by a Tolman setter.
Justin Girard was named Third Team All-Division for his outstanding play at the net. Girard became only the fifth player in team history to amass more than 200 kills in a season. His 206 kills was the fifth highest season total and his 3.68 kills per game average ranks third. Both stats are the highest by a Tolman middle hitter. The junior is also the first player in team history to total more than 50 blocks (52) and 200 kills in a season.
Veiga was named the team’s most valuable player and Girard was recognized as the team’s most improved player. Their contributions enabled the team to improve its record for the third straight year. After finishing 2-12 in 2006 and 10-8 in 2007, the Tigers made the playoffs for the second consecutive season in 2008, with a 10-6 record.
